Veteran’s Day Prayer – Oh God our Help in Ages Past

“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” (John 15:13, NV)

Below are selected verses of the Veteran’s Day prayer I shared at the 2017 Blue Ash Veteran’s Day program. Please join me in praying for all military personnel, past and present, that God’s grace may sustain them throughout the days and years to come.

A Veteran’s Day Prayer

“O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou are guide while troubles last,

And our eternal home.”

Almighty God, we have gathered today to ask for your blessing upon the brave men and women, living and dead, who have served our country through their military service. Accept our thanksgiving for their sacrifices, as well as the sacrifices of their families. Remind us never to take for granted their allegiance and devotion to the cause of freedom. Move our hearts to grant them the honor and respect they deserve. Kindle within us the fire of selflessness and loyalty that compelled these courageous souls to carry out their duties.

O God our help in ages past, we ask that your blessing be bestowed on and go with our veterans and their loved ones. We thank you for the privilege we’ve had today to share in this special occasion with them. Let us always honor the memory of the brave men and women who sacrificed their lives that we may experience the gifts of freedom. O God of ages past, uphold both our veterans and their families in your gracious care in the years to come. Bless them and comfort them in their time of challenge and sorrow. Remind us that life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are freedoms that are never free. Create in us grateful hearts for these faithful ones who gave so much for their country. We pray that your favor go with them and as we depart, that you may grant all of us your abiding peace. We ask these things in your holy name. Amen.
