Viewing Life

How we see life makes a difference.

Proverbs 17:22, MSG

Perspective makes a difference. How we view life impacts how we feel about life. For example, when you look at an empty glass, what do you see? Is your initial thought, “Wow, I’m thirsty and that schmuck of a waiter isn’t doing a thing to refill my glass”? Or does your mind say, “Wow, I have all kinds of possibilities to quench my thirst. I could change my order to some lemonade or a Diet Pepsi.”

I realize that I am taking on a paper tiger by citing this simple example. However, I believe we compound our own sense of angst by perceiving our daily challenges as problems rather than possibilities. I like the attitude of the little boy who wanted a pony for his birthday. One day his parents took him out to a farm. The boy soon disappeared into the barn. When his parents finally found him he was knee deep in manure. His mom and dad exclaimed, “What are you doing, Jimmy?” Gleefully, Jimmy shouted, “With all this manure on the floor, there just has to be a pony in here somewhere.”

Jimmy is one of those people who refuse to see the glass as empty. Rather they see a vessel that is completely available to receive God’s blessing. How about you? Where are the eyes of your heart peeled today? Do you view your challenges as problems over which to moan or do you see your challenges as possibilities for God to display the power of His love. The choice is really up to you.
