“Benaiah son of Jehoiada from Kabzeel was another famous soldier; he did many brave deeds, including killing two great Moabite warriors. He once went down into a pit on a snowy day and killed a lion. He also killed an Egyptian, a huge man who was armed with a spear. Benaiah attacked him with his club, snatched the spear from the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with it. Those were the brave deeds of Benaiah, who was one of “The Thirty.” He was outstanding among them, but was not as famous as “The Three.” David put him in charge of his bodyguard” (2 Samuel 23:20-23).

“…if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink,

for by doing so you will heap burning coals on his head” (Romans 12:20, ESV).

It was a scene that melts a parent’s heart. Isaiah Jarvis was hit in the head by a wild pitch during a Little League regional playoff final. Everyone in the stadium held their collective breath as the batter fell to the ground while clutching his head in pain.

“No,” the king said to Araunah. “I will buy them from you at a fair price. I won’t offer up to the Lord my God entirely burned offerings that cost me nothing.” So David bought the threshing floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver” (2 Samuel 24:24, CEB).

“They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar.  Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise, we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.”
(Genesis 11:3-4, NIV)
