“And I tell you: Ask and you will receive. Seek and you will find. Knock and the door will be opened to you” (Luke 11:9).

     Translation from one language to another can be tricky. The verbiage Jesus uses in the text above is no different. Ask, seek, and knock appear as one-time actions. However, all three verbs use what is called an imperfect imperative tense. The New Living Translation of the Bible conveys a more accurate interpretation of Jesus’ original words:

     No good deed goes unpunished. Maybe. Maybe not.

     Taylor Ostergaard and Linsey Zellitti wanted to do something nice for their neighbors. Late in the evening, they walked from house to house delivering the cookies they had baked. At 10:30 p.m., they pounded on the door of a woman who experienced a panic attack because of the girl’s late-night visit.

     Last week, an eighty-two year old man from British Columbia broke the Guinness World Record as the oldest man to perform a handstand. During an interview with CBS News Ives said:
     
      In my 60s, when my grandchildren were around on my lawn in the summertime, I just gave it a shot to
      get them involved in gymnastics as well. It just grew from there‒‒it became a custom on my birthday,  
      June 25, to have a grand group of grandchildren in the front yard trying to do headstands

“Remember the Sabbath day and treat it as holy.   Six days you may work and do all your tasks, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the LORD your God. Do not do any work on it…” (Exodus 20:8-10, CEB).

     Never leave that till tomorrow which you can do today. These are the words of Benjamin Franklin. Franklin was not a procrastinator by any means. He worked in four hour bursts and maintained a disciplined schedule.
