There are many benefits to becoming a Thrivent Member including the ability to start a Thrivent Action Team. Action Teams are designed to help Christians to live generously. Approved action teams receive promotional resources and seed money to jump-start your fundraiser, educational event or service project. Your team provides the people power to bring it to life.
You can become a member by purchasing a qualifying product from Thrivent Financial or by paying an annual fee of $19.95 to become an Associate Member. All adults and children sixteen years old or older who are Christians seeking to live out their faith, or spouses of Christians seeking to live out their faith are eligible to become an Associate Member and start an Action Team.
To become an Associate Member, follow these steps.
By paper:
You can print and fill out this Membership Application and then mail it in along with payment of $19.95.
Online:
1. Go to the online membership application here. You will be taken to a page that looks like this:
2. Select “I am new to Thrivent Financial,” then press “CONTINUE”. That will take you to a page where you can fill in your information. It looks like this:
3. Fill out your personal information. Select either “I am a Christian, seeking to live out my faith” or “I am the spouse of a Christian who seeks to live out their faith”.
- Under “Church Name”, list St. Paul Community United Methodist Church
- In the box for “Local Representative”, you can put David Eickman.
- Select your preferred method for paying your annual membership fee. You can choose to have the money withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a debit or credit card.
- Click continue and you will be taken to a confirmation page that looks like this:
4. Confirm the information you entered and click “Submit”. You will see a thank you message that looks like this:
5. After you submit your application, you will quickly receive an email acknowledging your application. It looks like this:
6. About a week later, you will receive an email thanking you for “connecting with Thrivent”. This lets you know that things are progressing. It looks like this:
7. A few days later you will receive an email with your membership number. This is the information you need to register for an online Thrivent account and apply for an action team. This email with membership number looks like this:
If you don’t receive this email, be on the lookout for a mailing from Thrivent. The mailing will have your membership number in it along with more information about your membership.
To Register
1. Once you haver your membership go to the Thrivent registration site. You will see a page that looks like this:
2. Enter your member number (from the email or the mailing) along with your birthdate and then click “I am not a robot”.
3. You will be asked to prove you are not a robot by performing some test. An example is picking out all the pictures that have cars in them – your test may be different. An example looks like this.
4. Follow the directions on the test then click “verify”.
5. If you passed the test, you will be taken back to the previous screen. Click “Continue”
6. You will be taken to a new screen that looks like the one pictured below. It will have the mailing address and email address you gave when you signed up listed. If that information is correct, click “Continue”
7. The next screen, shown below, asks you to agree to their Website terms of use. If you agree, scroll to the bottom and click the red “I agree” button.
8. The final step of registration will ask you to pick a user id and password. Be sure to record what you choose!
9. You are done! Log on to your account using the username and password you just selected.
10. The first time you log in, you will be asked to set up some added security in case they need to confirm your identity in the future. Enter in phone number(s) where you could be reached and/or and email address where they can send you a confirmation code. They will only use this information to confirm your identity.
Apply for your Action Team
Once you have received a membership number you can register online and then apply for an action team.
- Go to: https://www.thrivent.com/making-a-difference/living-generously/thrivent-action-teams/ If you haven’t done so already, login. Click on “Apply Now”
- Confirm that you are applying for yourself.
- Select “apply now” (again)
On this screen, you will see when you are able to start your next project. Members are only allowed one project a year. - Scroll down until you see “begin project application”. Make sure you have all the information listed before proceeding.
- Enter the date of your activity and a descriptive title.
- Tell what type of an activity is planned: Fundraiser, Service Activity, or Education
- Tell how you heard about Thrivant Action Teams (my church)
- Write a couple of sentences about your project.
- Tell how you will use the money.
- Tell what causes your project will be impacting.
- Tell them that this is part of a church.
Search for St. Paul Community United Methodist Church in Madeira. - Enter the approximate size of your team of volunteers and ask for t-shirts if you want them.
- Tell Thrivent if you want any other materials. They are free but aren’t needed for most of our projects.
- Confirm your contact information.
- Confirm the address where they should send your action kit.
- Review the details of your project and confirm. Agree to the conditions. Submit.
- You’re done! You will receive an email from Thrivent within 5 business days confirming if your project was approved.
