“Don’t stop meeting together with other believers, which some people have gotten into the habit of doing.          Instead, encourage each other, especially as you see the day drawing near” (Hebrews 10:25, CEB).

 

     I am a firm believer that grandchildren are God’s reward for not selling your children. My grand dog, Hank, spent the weekend with his grandparents. I love Hank. He brings great joy to our home.

Read Acts 15:36-41

     Relationships can bring blessings. They can also bring pain. The separation of Paul and Barnabas is a witness to the pain relationships can produce. Paul and Barnabas were each ardent followers of Jesus Christ. There is an indication that they were also close friends. Both men were integral to the initial movement of Christianity into communities beyond Jesus’ homeland.

Daily Devotional Sept. 7, 2022

We saw there the Nephilim (the descendants of Anak come from the Nephilim). We saw ourselves as grasshoppers, and that’s how we appeared to them” (Numbers 13:33, CEB).
 
     Do spiders dream? According to Daniela Roessler, a behavioral ecologist, they do. Roessler and her team observed jumping spiders as they slept. The researchers discovered that spiders experience something like rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, also known as the dream stage. REM sleep is the phase of the sleep cycle where our eyes dart back and forth as we experience visual dreams.

     Genesis can read like a E. L. James novel. The stories of Genesis delve into matters of fratricide, illicit rendezvous, treacherous betrayals, and strange quid pro quos. Humanity comes off looking like a sordid, contemptible lot of characters. Who would want to hang around the likes of people such as us?  God.

Daily Devotional Sept 2, 2022

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith”
(2 Timothy 4:7, NRSV).

     He broke my heart, again. Albert Pujols hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in extra innings to pull
out the win against my beloved Reds. Pujols shook off going hitless in his first five at-bats to deliver
the game-winning run. Pujols is the baseball player who famously said, “It’s not how you start the
season, it’s how you finish.”
